Tanking at 70

This is for you, Kadomi. May you drool lots.

I tanked a bit earlier on Bukki’s Beta character (level 72), as he was the closest thing I could get to 70. The testing ground was The Nexus. The reasoning behind this is, it is an instance with a good mix of single mob pulls, multi-mob pulls, hard-hitting mobs, and casters.

The Warrior

His stats were the following (unbuffed):

  • 18,323 Health
  • 1364 Attack Power
  • 76 Hit Rating
  • 9.66% white crit
  • 27.66% specials crit
  • 42.66% shield slam crit
  • 22 Expertise
  • 17,767 Armor
  • 484 Defense
  • 20.42% Dodge
  • 16.21% Parry
  • 21.42% Block Chance
  • 4pc T6
Glyphs
Rotation- Single Mobs
Shield Slam -> Revenge/Heroic Strike Macro -> Devastate -> Devastate
+ Thunderclap / Shockwave / Heroic Strike as a rage dump

 

Rotation – Multiple Mobs
Position Mobs -> Thunderclap -> Shockwave -> Queue Cleave repeatedly
+ Revenge / Free Shield Slams when I can

 

Spec
Level 70: 05/05/51
Level 72: 07/05/51

 

These are threat specs. The damage with a utility spec would be lower, but not by much.

 

The Group

The group composition was made up of:

Ret Pally (Ret Aura + BoM)

Death Knight (Horn of Winter)

Frost Mage (Lol weapon skillups)

Holy Priest (Fort)

The Results

The results were not unexpected in some ways, but surprising in others. Holding my own against ret pallies and other aggro whores is just nice. The surprising part, however, was the fact that I was second on damage done. bringing a tank now is just like bringing a dps who can take hits.     Puddles of drool, I tell ya, puddles! I want to tank an instance so badly in 3.0 and might even PUG something on the PTR, methinks.

    Now explain why SCT works for you and throws nothing but errors for me. :) I am currently struggling with actually noticing when S&B is up, I needs my SCT.
